Swap cow’s milk for plant alternatives
Since the rise in vegan products on the supermarket shelves, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to plant-based alternatives. This makes it much easier to try and test different brands and varieties to find one you like best. Why not give coconut, rice, or oat milk a try in your morning coffee?
Swap cream-based soups for dairy-free soups
When I started my journey to a more plant-based lifestyle I discovered that many soups, whether homemade or pre-packaged contained cream. It is generally used to thicken a soup however, it is super easy to avoid. If you are home making soup this January, why not try mixing cornflower with water, stir into the soup and let it simmer to your desired thickness? If you prefer to enjoy pre-packaged soups from the supermarket, fear not! You can be spoiled for choice when it comes to soups free from animal products in the fridge section. Just look for the Vegan symbol on the package!
Swap milk chocolate for dark chocolate
Did you know that most dark chocolates are naturally vegan, and are actually good for you (in moderation!). I get it, jumping from your usual milk chocolate to a 70% cocoa dark chocolate can be a shock to the system. But trust me when I say this, melting it and dipping Medjool dates or some chopped up pear makes a delicious snack!
Swap beef mince for black beans or lentils
Black beans and lentils are super versatile when it comes to vegan cooking and are full of protein! Black beans are a good substitute for mince in vegan burgers, chilli con carne and ‘meat’ less balls. Lentils are great at replacing mince in bolognese, shepherds pie and lasagne.
Swap dairy ice-cream for vegan ice cream
Don’t feel like you have to miss out on your favorite frozen treats whilst trying a vegan diet! In 2021, we are blessed with many vegan ice cream products that have emerged in all good supermarkets making it super easy to swap out from dairy ice cream. Furthermore, if you are feeling creative, you can even make your own vegan alternative with our healthy frozen banana treat!
