Apple crumble is an English favorite and the perfect dessert for those cold evenings. We have added our own twist with the addition of peanut butter (we love peanut butter very much!) and a nutty crunchy topping, you will be crazy not to try this! Make sure you use apples that are in season for the best apple flavors! Best served with custard or sorbet (check out our recent sorbet recipe!) this crumble will keep you warm this winter and put smiles all around the dinner table.

Ingredients

100g Plain flour 80g Rolled oats 3tbsp Brown sugar 100g Margarine 3 Large apples 1tsp Cinnamon 2tbsp Peanut butter 50g Cashews or peanuts

Method

  1. Start by peeling and de-seeding the apple. Chop the apple into small chunks and put into a saucepan.
  2. Put the hob on medium heat and start cooking the apples. Add the cinnamon and the sugar, then place a lid on top and leave to cool for 10 minutes. Don’t forget to occasionally stir.
  3. While the apples are cooking, get a baking dish and spread the peanut butter on the bottom of the dish.
  4. Once the apples are nice and soft, take them off the heat and transfer them into the baking dish that we just added the peanut butter to.
  5. Preheat the oven at 180 degrees. For the crumble topping, chop the margarine into small cubes, and add it to a mixing bowl along with the flour, oats, and cashews . Using your fingertips rub all the ingredients together until all it is mixed well into a crumble texture. Then pour on top of the apple mixture in the baking dish, ensuring it is evenly spread.
  6. Lightly dust the top of the crumble with sugar and pop in the oven for 25 minutes or until the top is golden.
